ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Step into a rewarding career as a fashion designer, illustrator, seamstress, merchandiser, or costume maker. You will learn about both the creative and technical sides of the fashion industry through hands-on activities, demonstrations, special events, and field trips. Fashion Design students also participate in fashion shows, award competitions, and networking opportunities.
This certificate is offered in conjunction with the Nevada Association of Fashion Design (NAFD), a nonprofit organization founded in 1995 with the goal of training Nevada’s emerging designers and promoting the state’s fashion industry.
This Program is Perfect For
Anyone interested in a career in fashion design, garment production, or fashion merchandising. Courses are also open to individuals who sew for personal enjoyment.
What You Will Learn
By the end of the program students will be able to:
- Design, analyze, and construct a garment.
- Modify and create an original pattern.
- Describe the elements of the fashion industry.
- Apply techniques of design.
- Prepare a self-promotion storyboard, a color board presentation, and a business plan.
Program Details
To earn the Fashion Design Certificate, you must successfully complete the 9 required courses* for a total of 297.5 hours (29.75 CEUs).
*Students who have started the Fashion Design certificate program prior to fall 2024 can contact ce-assistant@unlv.edu for equivalent course credit.
Once you fulfill all certificate program requirements as outlined in the Academic Plan, you may request your certificate.
